Roil, Walter

Walter Roil was born in Freiburg, Germany in 1904. He settled in Rio Gallegos, on the Patagonian coast, where he opened his studio in 1934. His work chronicles the minutiae of daily life, the faces of entire generations of pioneers, settlers and adventurers, the arid landscape, the port and fishing vessels. His photographic archive is one of the most important in the country. He died in 1989.
