López Marcos

López, Marcos

(Argentina 1958)

A multidisciplinary artist, whose work reveals a marked theatrical aesthetic, his quasi-commercial style consecrated him first as the standard-bearer of Latin pop and later as the poster boy for ‘Creole subrealism.’ His work references comic books and draws inspiration from social criticism, also sensitive to the poetic value of photography. He defines himself by saying, “I am structurally a photographer, but one who is always escaping photography into other areas, particularly interested in creating works that identify and exaggerate Latin American stereotypes.”
