Description

This book recovers Juan Enrique Bedoya's extensive photographic journey (Lima, 1966) up to the present day. It is organized chronologically, from his initial portraits of marginalized individuals in the 1980s to his images of 'architecture without architects,' vernacular constructions of often breathtaking beauty that express the genius of a place and its inhabitants, as well as road signs and other roadside artifacts and landscapes that capture his attention.

The photos are accompanied by texts by the artist himself, where he reflects not only on his expressive medium—photography—but also on his childhood in Lima in the 1970s, his foray into graphic journalism, his involvement in creating spaces for creative photography, and his travels across Peru and other countries.

Additionally, texts by Jaime Bedoya, Oscar Malca, and Rodrigo Quijano are reproduced, focusing on particular aspects of these images.

The twelve chapters of the book chronologically organize this diverse photographic and textual production. Alexis Fabry's concise introduction highlights the genesis of this book and Bedoya's connection 'with the popular culture of his country [...] and his determination to overlook hierarchies, to see the world "in the grand and the minute".'

This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition of the same name at the Larivière Foundation (July to October 2025).
