The book includes two photographic essays: “Great Women” and “Twin Souls.”

“Great Women” portrays various elderly women, reflecting the most varied physiognomies, social conditions, expressions and activities. No detail of their portraits, no setting for each photograph, appears to have been left to chance.

“Twin Souls” is a series of color photographs of identical twins. On the basis of her own personal experience, Messina felt driven to discover and investigate the deep and intense relationship that exists between twins. Careful staging, choice of color and illumination help to build portraits with a great visual and emotional impact.
